Gospel Reflection

This weekend, we see Mary and Joseph presenting Jesus in the temple.  They willingly did what God asked of them and then went back to Nazareth where "the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him."  Luke 2:40  How do you pass the faith onto your own children?  How was the faith passed on to you?

  1. We use books such as Treasure box books, the Bible (of course!), and the Christian Alphabet Book to help explain principles of the faith. My son and I used to pray the Rosary together, and explaining the mysteries was also helpful. Holidays are always a good opportunity to explain theological principles. My biggest goal right now is to help him develop his prayer life and have a relationship with God. I do this by trying to model spontaneous prayer and encourage him to initiate prayer. The task of imparting the faith is overwhelming. I worry about my ability to cover the things that need to be covered at the right time in the right way. And the hardest part is being a good witness.

  2. Our kids are blessed to go to a really great Catholic school. At home, we try to share with them how we stay close to Christ. We share prayer requests and celebrate Church feast days. I know we could do more, but sometimes I just have to pray that we do as much as we can. I did not go to Catholic school, but was shown and taught my faith by my parents and grandparents. I can't pick up my rosary without remembering the never-ending prayers of my grandma.

Sorry I haven't been more present this past week, Claire. Now that Catholic Schools Week is over, I'll be more active.

    1. I totally understand! I admire the fact that you've been able to find the time to post a topic each day; I know that takes a fair amount of time (and I love the topics you've chosen so far, by the way.)

  3. Thank you! I have a love for writing, so it's been a joy. Hopefully, we can get some others to join us. Have a great evening!
