Friday Fun Day

So what's going on with you this weekend? Any big plans?

  1. We're going to try again to have our Valentine's Day date on Sunday. One of our cars was totalled this past week, so we really could use a break!

  2. Oh Claire, I'm so sorry to hear about your car! I hope no one was hurt. Car problems are so challenging and depressing.

As for me, nothing unusual this weekend. The usual laundry and cleaning and maybe some baking, if I feel energetic. We're supposed to have really nice weather and that will be a treat.

    1. Thanks Anne. Thankfully my husband was not hurt. He was driving to work early in the morning, before the trucks really do much work on sanding and salting, and he slipped on black ice on the exit ramp. The whole driver's side of the car was smashed in. We have 10 days of a rental car, so we're scrambling to get a new-to-us car. Which naturally costs more than the amount of money we're getting from the insurance company, and our rates will go up now, so it's been a touch week. But the most important thing is that my husband is okay.

  3. claire: Thank God your husband was ok! I hope the repairs aren't too costly & that you can find a good used vehicle.

We are hoping to attend the Worley Gardner (he's an old-time hammered dulcimer player) Music Festival to enjoy a square dance & some old-time Appalachian music.

    1. Thanks Pilgrims! We have started the paperwork for purchasing a two-year old car with 28,000 miles, and we think the price is a good deal. Your weekend plans sound great!

  5. Forgot to mention that we'll celebrate George Washington's birthday today with brownies topped with whipped cream and cherry pie filling. :D

    1. That's a great idea! I'll have to remember that next President's Day.

    2. And ANOTHER thing I forgot to mention is that I always give each of my daughters (and my husband!) a dollar bill folded so that it looks like George Washington's portrait is framed. They love this! I do it with five dollar bills for Lincoln's birthday, which is also when we rotate the Lincoln logs out of storage. Google dollar bill origami and you'll find directions for all kinds of fun shapes.

    3. I never thought of using Lincoln Logs; what a great idea! (Interestingly, my son took it upon himself to pull out the Lincoln logs and make a building over vacation last week!)

  6. How fun, Anne! And Claire, the kids loved the birthday party. It was a swimming party at the Y for a friend. Always nice to do a "summer thing" in the middle of winter. ;)

    1. That sounds like a lot of fun! My son takes swimming lessons at the Y (although we're not members), but I never thought of having a birthday party there.
