Friday Fun Day

Any big plans for the weekend?  I have highlights and a haircut on Saturday morning and I can't wait!  It's been almost a year since my last highlights, so I am definitely overdue.  And I just love being able to sit under the warm dryer and read a book in peace.  A little slice of heaven!

  1. I went a long time without getting hilights myself, to save money. I finally resumed getting them 6 months ago. The last time I went, the salon was freezing (I assume she was trying to save money because of this very cold winter we've had),and I was so looking forward to sitting under the hair dryer. But for some reason she didn't have me sit under it! I hope your experience goes better.

My husband and I are going out to dinner tonight to celebrate his 50th birthday (today) and our anniversary from a couple of weeks ago. Sunday I'm hoping my husband can lend a hand to a single mother who I know about through a Catholic homeschool group that I belong to. (My son currently attends kindergarten at public school, but the homeschool group has been gracious enough to let me stay on while I continue to discern.) This poor woman bought a house and then found out it needed a major mold remediation, and she needs many hands to help with this because otherwise it would be way too expensive.) After he gets back, hopefully we'll be able to go for a walk as a family, and grill dinner outside. It's supposed to be 70 degrees!

  2. It's supposed to be gorgeous weather here, too. I have housework and crafts I'd like to catch up on (as I say every weekend).

Does anybody have any interesting Palm Sunday plans? When my girls were younger, we used to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey on Palm Sunday -- I figured the donkey was a key player in the events of the day, so why not have some fun! They've kind of outgrown that now. Last year we had ice cream sundaes -- as in, Palm SUNDAE -- but I'm thinking maybe there is something else to do?

Enjoy getting your highlights, Catholic Mom! I've never gotten them, but I could use a haircut. And Claire I hope you have a lovely date tonight! Good luck with that mold, yuck. It's great of you to help -- wear a mask!!

    1. Thanks Anne. I'm actually not going to go to the site of the mold; I'm just sending my husband. My son has asthma and multiple allergies, so I wouldn't be able to take him to that environment.

We don't really have any Palm Sunday traditions. We will probably go to the Vigil Mass tomorrow afternoon. My son will be excited to get new palms (and he was excited burn the old ones in the fireplace; we have a fire almost every Sunday night during the winter). Tomorrow he will be thrilled to be able to go to the church playground before Mass; it's been about 6 months since it's been warm enough to do that. Hopefully he'll burn off enough energy to be able to sit through the long Palm Sunday liturgy!

  3. claire: That's really wonderful of your husband to help her clean out the mold. I 2nd Anne's suggestion of wearing a mask & having the windows open if possible. Happy b'day to your DH & belated Happy Anniversary to you!

Anne: I think pin the tail on the donkey & having sundaes are such neat ideas to celebrate Palm Sunday! We might borrow that sundae tradition. :)

I have to take our eldest daughter to take the ACT tomorrow morning, while my husband & the younger children go digging for ramps. Our parish hands out a few palms, but mostly pussy willows (as is common in Eastern Europe) on Palm Sunday. A few years back, we brought home our willows & rooted them in a vase of water. Now, we have 2 large willow bushes & are able to use cuttings from them for Palm Sunday, which is nice.
